Update on Minerva’s Legacy Project

16 February 2017

In September’s Newsletter we highlighted that staff in Minerva’s Jersey office had selected Clic Sargent Jersey and The Multiple Sclerosis Society of India as their chosen charities for 2016/17.

The Jersey staff Christmas party was the setting for the first major fund-raising event and we were very grateful for support received from local businesses such as: The Mansell Collection, Brookes MacDonald, and L’Horizon Hotel who all kindly donated auction prizes; the staff auction raised nearly £5,000.

Staff in Jersey already have other events lined up to help reach their target for both these good causes, including a soup kitchen in March, cake baking in April, the Durrell dash (a 13K run) in May, and Jersey’s half marathon in June. The Durrell Dash is particularly interesting as Hollywood’s Superman, Jersey born actor and Durrell ambassador Henry Cavill will be taking part. The opportunity to beat “the man of steel” over 13k is not to be missed!

With more activities planned for the second half of the year, staff in Jersey are confident of reaching their fund-raising targets for Jersey families with a child needing cancer treatment in the UK (Clic Sargent Jersey) and support for a new physiotherapy programme in India, through the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Although Minerva’s Jersey team select a Jersey and an African or Indian charity to support each year, Minerva maintains contact and provides other support for the causes supported in the past. JERSKEN, a Jersey based charity supporting an orphanage in Nairobi, was one of the two charities Minerva staff supported in 2015/16, and this helped Jersken press ahead with work to extend the first floor of the orphanage. We were delighted to receive an update last month and see the first floor taking shape, as this will accommodate a kitchen, dining/common room, play room and bedrooms, all vital to the children’s well-being.
