Head of Mauritius Office
The business of Minerva Fiduciary Services (Mauritius) Limited was established in 1996 making it one of the longest standing trust, corporate and funds services companies on the island. At the time, it was one of just a handful of such companies that were part of wider international fiduciary services groups such as Minerva.
Initially established to assist clients with direct foreign investment into India, Minerva’s Mauritius office has diversified and grown steadily, and now employs over 50 staff in its offices in Cybercity, the focal point for financial services activity on the island.
The international financial services sector can trace its birth back to legislation between 1988 and 1992 which laid the foundations of the modern financial centre Mauritius is today. A fairly young industry by international comparison however forward-thinking and having learned from the success of others it has developed its own distinct product and services set.
Mauritius was an early adopter of the robust financial services regulation necessary to develop as a globally accepted finance centre, attracting many of the largest banks, accountancy and legal firms to its shores. The island was also quick to capitalise on some of its inherent advantages such as its political stability, highly educated and multi-lingual workforce, modern infrastructure, favourable time zone and a legal system based on both civil and common law practices.
These factors are not unique to Mauritius, tax neutrality is quite common however what sets Mauritius apart are its large and growing network of tax treaties, its investment promotion and protection agreements, and its membership of many African trade and cooperative bodies.
Such distinctions make Mauritius the logical choice for certain types of cross border investment activity. From its Mauritius office Minerva provides the following core services:
With its wide-ranging tax treaties, well-developed financial services sector and robust regulatory framework Mauritius offers a safe haven to private clients seeking to hold wealth in a tax neutral jurisdiction and provides a gateway for corporates, private equity and institutions looking to invest into Africa and elsewhere.
